Learners in this program explore the concepts and skills necessary to transition into project management-based careers. In this course, students will learn definitions and processes that contribute to the project management framework. The course will follow the project methodology of the Project Management Institute and explore the project life cycle, stakeholder management, how organizational culture affects project management, scope management, and how a project is created. Students will prepare for the workplace by learning the foundations of Project Management and its critical role in all industries and work functions.

Expected outcomes and deliverables


  • Business Case- Help identify and document the Project Sponsor's stated goals and objectives for the project. Document the proposed scope of the project. Assist with documenting the preliminary cost estimate for the project. Document how the project's objectives align with the organization's strategic objectives.


  • Scope Statement- Collaborate with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to refine and clarify the proposed deliverables considered to be in the project's scope. Document items not in scope. Capture the assumptions made by the SMEs. Document the project risks identified by the SMEs.


  • Project Charter- Utilizing the Business Case and Scope Statement, create a well-defined project charter, for effective project initiation. 


  • Communications Plan-The ability to construct a project communication plan, ensuring stakeholder engagement, project team coordination, and timely project status delivered to the Project Sponsor.


  • Project Schedule-The ability to work with the project's SMEs to identify the tasks required to achieve the project's goal and deliverables into a Work Breakdown Structure. Collaborate with the SMEs to identify the task effort estimates, dependencies, and tasks on the critical path.


  • Change Log and Lessons Learned-The ability to effectively maintain a change log to record and track changes that occur during the execution phase of a project.


  • Comprehensive Project Plan-Students showcase a final draft of their Comprehensive Project Plan in their professional portfolio.

Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to: 


  1. Apply project management methodologies, including project lifecycle phases, key project documentation.
  2. Effectively manage project meetings, navigate project stakeholders, communicate within the project context, and create detailed project reports and plans. 
  3. Apply project planning, including the ability to create project schedules and project plans. Help document the Project Sponsor's resource allocation, risk management, and quality control specifications.
